UKIP NI Chairman and Newry and Mourne Councillor Henry Reilly has
slammed the Republic’s Government - claiming that its intention to
implement what he described as “a devastating 4 year austerity programme
at the behest of the EU” is a contemptible betrayal of the Irish people
and a clear indication that Ireland is “no longer an Independent Country
but a mere province of the EU Superstate”.

Not only have they lost their currency, ability to set interest rates and
manage fiscal policy but they have now virtually conceded the ability to
set their own tax rates.

The Northern Ireland Assembly members who appear to put a very high degree
of emphasis on fostering relations with the EU should take a look at what
is happening in the Republic and count themselves extremely lucky to be an
integral part of the UK where we still have at least a degree of
independence.

The Irish Republic is a now run by remote control from Brussels and has
lost its Independence. The final straw must be this week’s announcement
from the EU commission that they must raise their presently-attractive
rate of Corporation Tax from its present 12.5% to the EU average. If
implemented, this will result in a haemorrhage of international capital
from the Republic and destroy up to 190,000 jobs that are currently
created by big multi-national companies.

The Republic's indigenous industry is virtually destroyed as a result of
years of neglect and their fixation on attracting foreign investment. The
people of the Republic must reassert their National Identity and actually
have the courage to say no to the EU and start to do things in a fashion
that suits them and not the Brussels mandarins.

Councillor Reilly said “The UK now has a golden opportunity to break the
shackles of Europe and rebuild our overseas trade with the 70 countries
and territories that make up the Commonwealth and include the most dynamic
and fastest-growing economies in the World”.

The government does not even know how many people are even in the UK. It is time for a fresh immigration system that works. To read UKIP’s policy click here

UKIP NI has stated its belief that the United Kingdom’s farmers must be allowed to produce the food the Country needs. At present the UK can only produce approximately 55% of all the food our population requires. The devaluing Pound is leading to massively inflated food prices for consumers, given that such a large proportion of our food is brought in from overseas.

The UK needs to give incentives to the Farming industry to ramp up production of agricultural produce. This would have the added benefit of improving our balance of payments and creating much needed employment in the producing and processing sectors. The Government needs to set up a review of farming practices and standards and prohibit the importation of food that has been produced as a result of lower animal husbandry standards. The present practice of ensuring strict animal health and welfare regulations which are costly and inhibit production on our farmers is unfair while we allow meat products to be imported from Countries which do not even meet basic standards. This must stop. UKIP believes in good animal health and welfare conditions on our farms but the commitment of British farmers must be recognised by our own Government. This quality must not be undermined by cheap and lower quality imports of which we know very little as to how they were produced.

UKIP NI Chairman, Councillor Henry Reilly said; “British farming expertise is the best in the world. Our produce is good wholesome food and this is what the people want. By substituting expensive imports with UK food it puts us in a win-win situation for the farmer, the country and the consumer.”

UK Independence Party Councillor Henry Reilly has voiced concern regarding the ‘very real prospect of Economic collapse’ in the Republic of Ireland, “I am concerned that the South is not going to be able to fight off the overbearing debt pressures that exist there, they are now in a worse position than Greece in terms of finances and have massive liabilities in relation to bank garantees that could drag them under, I take no pleasure whatsoever from their problems and I am very concerned as to how we in Northern Ireland would cope with the massive surge of economic migrants from the Republic who would swamp our health and social services and education system if collapse does occur south of the border.”

“We are facing very uncertain times and Westminster and the Assembly must make contingency plans now as to what our reponse would be to such a disaster. We must have plans in place to urgently seal off the entire border in order to preserve our own services and population. I will be asking the party to raise this issue with HMG to ensure that contingiencies are in place for such an event,” said Councillor Reilly.
